Here’s a cool, calm collection for your bedroom – inspired by a cute couple of Budgie art prints! (by artist Margaret Petchell)…

Clockwise from top left:

•  Bird-cage style Bell Basket pendant light, from Freedom Furniture.

His and hers budgies! Wilbur (in blue) circle framed art print, from endemicworld, and
Percy (in pink) circle art print, framed, from endemicworld.

Peyton Queen bed, also from Freedom.

•  Two looks for the price of one! Kip & Co reversible duvet cover, available from LETLIV.

To keep things soft and cozy – this light grey Geo Throw, from Paper Plane.

We love this woven hemp Zinnia rug by Armadillo & Co, with its subtle natural colouring. The circle shape ties in nicely with our circle art prints, too. Available from Superette.

Simple, stylish side table from Freedom.

•  Every grown-up bedroom deserves at least one ‘investment’ piece. Ours would be, in this space, the Angle Table Lamp 2.0 by NZ designers Douglas and Bec - comes in lots of amazing colours but we’ve chosen Lesley Blue here, to tie into the blues in our Wilbur and Percy circle art prints.

The coolest contemporary finishing touch are these wall hooks – the iconic Dots from Muuto (perfect for hanging up outfits, jewellery, etc). Available in NZ from Bauhaus.

New Year, New Look

Ah, January. Our FAVE time of the year! A new diary (blank pages excite us), and a chance to refresh your rooms – to create a new space for the new year ahead.
Here’s a few easy tips to creating a new look for your bedroom, on a budget…

framed art print on black bedroom wall

Black is back! If you’re a little nervous (or budget-conscious) about painting a whole room black, just go for one wall, behind the bed, as they’ve done here. Simple and chic – and it makes any art prints you have on the wall really pop!

Buying just a few contemporary cushions is a quick way to totally revive your bed linen. Have a few sweet little plants around the house or outside?
Pop one at your bedside to breathe a little more life into the space.

Art Print Picture Ledge in bedroom

See what we mean about the little plant on the bedside? Nice!
Rearrange your art prints around the house – taking from one room and displaying in another, grouping them differently than you have in the past.
These small ledge shelves are perfect for above your bed – display 2 or 3 of your favourite prints and add a small keepsake/memento to break it up.

chair and bed

Speaking of switching things around… try a fave chair as a bedside table instead!

photos as art on wall

Relive your awesome summer hols with a casual-cool collage as art on your bedroom wall. Pick and print a bunch of fave photos, arrange, and pop on the wall with washi tape.
Choose colourful patterned tape or stick with one shade – up to you! The best thing about washi tape is how cleanly it removes, so you can play around with where and how you display the photos.

Sick of your bedside table? Try a stack of your all-time fave books or magazines. So simple, so effective, and no-cost.
And who said art prints have to be on the wall? Take them down and try a few leaned up against a wall. We like it. We like it a lot!

Large art print leaning up against the wall, a stack of good magazines, a little bit of green foliage and a beautiful candle… BOOM, instant bedside style.

Ice Cream Dreams

Inspired by Greg Straight’s new Lazy Sundae art print, we’ve scooped up some of the yummiest examples of the current trend for pastel and candy colours in interior design…

Lazy Sundae art print – available framed or unframed, in sizes from A4 up to A2. Part of NZ illustrator Greg Straight’s newest Gone Troppo range of art prints.

Sweet ceramic hanging planter, in pastel yellow (also comes in pastel pink and mint), from Iko Iko.

We love candy stripes! Mint-green cushion, from Freedom Furniture.

Pink Triangles throw (printed by hand!), by designer and maker Caroline Hurley.

Loving the soft pink of this dipped ceramic vase, available from LET LIV.

Blonde timber loves pastel colours! This Spoke table in soft blue is from Freedom Furniture.

Geometric faceted Bowls in neon pink, pastel pink and grey (love those colours together), from Good Regards.

Stacking candy-coloured mug set, with a retro graphic design… my morning coffee needs one of these! From Iko Iko.

NZ interior designer LeeAnn Yare’s bedding range includes this pastel-and-brights Carnival design (pillowcase pictured here, duvet cover also available). Get it from Collected.

Interior Inspiration – Swiden and Sweden

This week, we’re feeling super inspired by the brand new art prints that have arrived from Sweden-born artist Swiden. We’re huge fans of her candy-coloured, abstract artworks, and of the interior style of her country of birth. So for the love of all things Scandinavian, we went hunting for some of the best Scandi-style interiors (and walls where we’d love to see Swiden art prints hanging!)

Love those hanging pendant lights in our current colour crush – candy pink! And we WANT those mint green vintage chairs at our place!
Also, polished white concrete floors? Yes please!

Lots of iconic Scandinavian design in this little space – including the Tulip table (designed in the 50′s by Eero Saarinen for furniture brand Knoll), that statement Louis Poulsen-style light, and those gorgeous blonde timber chairs by modern design brand Muuto.

The Scandi-look is famous for white, white and more white! Like this gorgeous little dining nook. (We love a nook!) The mis-matched chairs add some personality, and keep the look from being too minimal and austere. We’d also love to see a Swiden art print on that wall, to give this space a little burst of modern colour amongst all the white!

A Scandi-style interior doesn’t have to mean super clean and white – there’s also the moodier look that’s popular in the long Winters. Think black furniture, lots of deep and soft grey, and plenty of natural texture with accents like wool, wood and hides. We think this space would look awesome with a little pop of colour in the form of one of our Swiden art prints (with a bold black frame.)

This stylish Scandi space shows off the latest on-trend colour palette: soft neutrals with pastels. Keep the ‘canvas’ clean and simple, then decorate with modern, candy-coloured textiles and homeware.

There’s sooo much to love in this cool kitchen – the herringbone kitchen tiles (adore!), the vintage ladder used as a towel rack,  that massive industrial light…
