Alice Berry art prints are instantly recognisable for their unabashed love of colour and quirk. Her current collection includes the popular native NZ bird prints, and a Llama series that features a Hipster Llama and Llama Del Ray, haha.

Along with designing awesome art prints, what else do you do?
I work full time as a graphic designer for a travel company doing brand work. So it is press ads, campaigns, posters, brochures etc. It is my first full time job out of study where I actually get to do graphic design which is sweet! I have been there for just over a year now so have figured out working full time and doing my prints and gift cards in the evenings or weekends. It makes travel very tempting after looking at awesome images of different countries all day!

What inspired your Llama series?
I think llamas are really weird! I like kinda weird things and they have such long necks! There are a few llama farms near where I grew up as well and I have always thought they are pretty cute and have funny personalities. The first series of llamas was kind of a story about a llama falling in love (awww). The second series was a bit more about giving the llamas personalities or characters. It was really fun coming up with ideas for them and then actually doing the work.

What would be a dream creative project for you?
I would LOVE to do a project designing a whole range of homewares and also stationery. I fricken love awesome stationery so being able to create a whole range would be amazing. I also love homewares. Everything from tea towels to mugs to duvets. Imagining being able to complete a project on an entire range like that is pretty cool. Illustrating a children’s book is another one… there are so many things I want to do!
Besides graphic design and illustration, what else do you love to do?
I love to shop for my future house! Don’t have a house… don’t know when I will… but I am collecting things for it already.
I seem to have an obsession with white ceramic things. I found these two awesome little ceramic kittens in an op shop, and that started it all. I also found some sweet ceramic dishes in the shape of trout fish! Got a heap of white tea pots and I recently inherited a really special white ceramic swan from my late Gonga (granddad).
I also enjoy just hanging out by the water. I grew up living by the water front on the Tauranga Harbour and rowed on there for quite a few years. There is nothing quite as peaceful as laying quietly in the coxswain seat of a rowing boat at 6am with the water running past the boat and the sun rising.

What are you working on next?
It’s a secret! Haha nah, well kinda..but what I can tell you is that I am starting to work a bit on some sort of homewares. Attempting to make part of that dream project start to come to life. I’m also working on a new series of prints and gift cards. I have just been on my first overseas trip to South East Asia so am experimenting with a few ideas now that I have some fresh inspiration. Hopefully it wont be too long until I can release some new things!
