Ross Murray has released two new vintage style travel art prints ‘Auckland’ & ‘Mount Maunganui’. A continuation on from his first release of the New Zealand series. The colour palette and typography choices are reminiscent of the New Zealand tourism posters of the 1930’s but they still have a contemporary look, Ross captures so well what we love about these great cities.

Maegan McDowell’s limited edition photographic collection ‘Ice Flowers’ pushes the concept of her debut series which explored the life of dried flowers. ‘Ice Flowers’ is a body of work where flowers have been plunged into icy waters and delicately lock together to create temporary forms, immortally captured. Melting ice exposes welting petals, creating cracked surfaces and minute details that champion beauty in the unusual. The visual style of this series takes cues from Renaissance’s ‘Dutch Masters’ – painters who were renowned for creating art that evoked emotions with story and colour.

Holly Roach Original Artworks

These works come from Holly Roach’s 2018 exhibition ‘Same Same’, based around ideas of perceptions, judgments, perceived notions and stereotyping of people. Each portrait is created using the same template of a person and then different elements added to build these individual characters. Here’s an excerpt from the show catalogue written by Holly:

“By starting with the same face for each portrait, I am hoping to convey the belief that we are far more similar than different. Under all the layers of gender, race, political leanings, religion, faith and cultural identity, our stories have common threads – we stand on common ground. I believe that we all want similar things in life; to be safe, to have shelter, to be loved, to love, to be seen and valued for who we are.”

Rakai Karaitiana Limited Edition Screen Prints

Rakai Karaitiana was born and raised in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay and spent entire summers roaming the sand dunes and beaches of his hau kainga, Waimarama. As children, Rakai’s father taught him and his siblings how to surf and as young teenagers would load the family ford falcon station wagon and do road trips up the east coast visiting whanau and exploring isolated surf breaks. Visiting these coastal communities Rakai was exposed to the painted Ringatu Marae of the east coast, these images and the love of the ocean and coastline is a big part of what inspires Rakai’s work.

Informed by her print design background, Georgina develops distinctive colour palettes that underpin each body of work. She instinctively puts unexpected colours together, paints with broad expressive brushstrokes and draws with a random, loose energy. “I am profoundly inspired by my years working in Barcelona and the rich energy that pervades the air there; painters Matisse, Kirchner and Kandinsky; abstract expressionism; fashion & printed textile design; the beautiful landscape that surrounds me at home in New Zealand. I love it all.”
